96.3% of all "rod" failures are due to incorrect torque or more appropriately "stretching" of the rod bolts. This measurement is Critical for correctly assembling the bottom end. Rod bolt stretch is critical to making sure that the rod bolts are set correctly. Even at the correct torque, it is possible to under or overstretch the rod bolts. When this occurs, the torque can be artificially too low or the fastener has stretched too far and is fatigued. Either condition will cause failure at elevated RPMs. If you are a shop or even the do-it-yourselfer, you need to check the rod bolts as they are the MOST stressed fastener on your engine and will fail if no correctly tightened.
